At BPAS, we are looking for a Lead Nurse or Midwife to come and join our passionate and dedicated team to provide abortion and sexual health information, pre-treatment assessment and treatment to clients in a supportive manner within our unit in Swindon for hours a week.
As the Lead Nurse or Midwife you will lead, manage and mentor a clinical team of nurses and midwives involved in the provision of the termination service. You will also deputise in the absence of the Treatment Unit Manager,ensuring the highest standards of care and safety for our clients.
About You
You will be a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife (practising) who has experience of working within a clinical environment, where you have supervised or managed other clinical staff. You will have experience of working to guidelines, policies and procedures, and also have experience of completing client documentation.
We are also looking for:
1. Knowledge of the Abortion Act, Health & Safety, COSHH requirements, Infection Control and Child Protection
2. A friendly, professional, supportive and non-judgmental person with a commitment to a client-led service
Main duties of the job
3. To deliver high standards of care in accordance with NMC Guidelines for Professional Practice and to promote the safety and well-being of clients at all times.
4. Assess the gestation of the pregnancy by ultrasound scanning, and establish that the client is sure of her decision to request a termination and ensure that the reason complies with the terms of the Abortion Act.
5. Carefully check for and implement any procedure indicated on Client Care Notes as appropriate - including administering medication for Medical Abortion procedures, cervical preparation and surgical treatment.
6. Assist in the orientation of new staff, including bank and agency staff, and provide an environment conducive to learning in which staff are able to develop.
7. To complete Datix andensure complaints / serious incidents are dealt with in a timely manneraccording to policy and procedure
8. To complete clinicalaudits and act on the results escalating them to the relevant person/team as necessary
9. Assist the UnitManager in setting budgets for the Unit and in ensuring that CQC standards aremaintained.

Further Information
Salary: £41,807 - £49,238 per annum - dependent upon experience, skills and qualifications.
