Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our dynamic, friendly and supportive Adult Community SLT team to work with adults with communication and swallowing difficulties.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist with post-qualification dysphagia training and at least two years of clinical dysphagia experience to provide a comprehensive, specialist clinical service to clients with communication and swallowing difficulties. The post-holder will work with clients with a range of conditions including stroke, progressive neurological disorders, dementia, and learning disabilities. You will manage your caseload independently with support from peer and senior Speech and Language Therapy colleagues. You will be required to support student placements and to supervise junior colleagues. You will be based in Fareham and Gosport locality, at Fareham Community Hospital and Gosport War Memorial Hospital, offering a community service utilising outpatient appointments, telehealth appointments and some home visits.

Our Speech and Language Therapy team covers a wide geographical area across Portsmouth City, Fareham & Gosport and South-East Hampshire, in both outpatient and domiciliary settings.


Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner, assessing, diagnosing, and providing timely interventions to patients with a range of acquired communication and/or swallowing difficulties as a member of the Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) team.

The SLT vision is to improve quality of life, to give voice to people with communication and swallowing disorders, to reduce risk and support safety, always upholding trust CARE values and innovating with positive change. Priorities are to provide great care, to provide equitable care to a diverse caseload across a large geographical area and to make SLT a great place to work.

The SLT department provides a service to people aged 16 years and over with an acquired communication, voice or swallowing difficulty who live in the Portsmouth City, Fareham and Gosport and South-East Hampshire areas. Interventions are delivered face-to-face, in groups, and via telephone and video platforms.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* *Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
* *A valid up-to-date RCSLT registration
* *A valid up-to-date HCPC registration


Experience

* *Experience of working as a registered SLT with a range of acquired communication/swallowing conditions
* *Experience of a broad range of adult acquired communication and swallowing impairments
* *Experiencing of providing clinical supervision
* *Experience of supervising students
* *Experience of working in a changing environment
* *Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
* *Experience of providing training
* *Experience of delivering presentations
* Skills
* *Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy
* *Highly developed IT skills
* *Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
* *A reliable and strong team member
* *Good analytical and reflection skills


Additional Criteria

* *Understanding of the principles of clinical governance and audit
* *Understanding of the role of other relevant professionals
* *Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools
* *Knowledge of a broad range of therapeutic interventions
* Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to acquired communication and swallowing difficulties
