We are launching a dedicated Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) service to provide specialist assessment, intervention and collaborative support for autistic students and students who have learning difficulties.

In this role, you will help students with diverse and often complex communication needs – assessing, prioritising and delivering treatments that support successful transitions. Working as a key member of the SALT department, you will engage in multi-disciplinary collaboration with both internal and external partners to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students. You will also participate in a structured programme of supervision, competency development and CPD activities under the guidance of a supervising clinician.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HCPC‑registered Speech and Language Therapist who is passionate about inclusive practice, multi‑agency working and making a meaningful difference to students’ lives.


SALT responsibilities

* To provide assessment and appropriate speech and language therapy intervention for students with a range of speech, language and communication difficulties (some of which are complex in nature), with support and advice from supervising clinician as required.
* To develop and provide communication plans for the specified caseload, to include communication strengths and weaknesses and strategies for use by staff in order to develop students’ communication skills and enhance functional communication between staff and students.
* To develop individual communication programmes to meet the requirements of an EHCP including the development and review of individual targets.
* To contribute to the planning and delivery of weekly individual/group therapy sessions.
* To provide appropriate information, advice and support to students, parents/carers and other relevant services within and out of Homefield, e.g. NHS, Local Authority, private care providers.
* To prioritise caseload based on students’ needs, Homefield standards and RCSLT best practice guidelines.
* To work with all appropriate agencies and colleagues when necessary as part of the multi-disciplinary team, establishing collaborative working relationships, sharing skills and information to facilitate holistic student care.
* To make referrals to relevant specialist services for individuals requiring assessment for a communication aid or dysphagia.
* To facilitate compliance with the Accessible Information Standard and RCSLT 5 Good Communication Standards.
* To participate in clinical audit procedures and contribute to service development projects.
* To attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings including annual reviews where appropriate.
* To demonstrate a working knowledge of the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice.
* To develop and update clinical knowledge and skills under own initiative and the direction of supervising clinician.
* To evaluate and monitor clinical input using evidence-based reflective practice and outcome measures.
* To participate in planning and delivery of student-specific intervention and training in order to meet communication needs and promote independence and well-being.
* To take part in/implement all relevant activities, standards, procedures and policies related to Clinical Governance as required by the RCSLT and HCPC.
* To undertake administrative duties to ensure records are maintained in accordance with agreed standards.
* To contribute to the development of the SALT service offer in partnership with SALT colleagues.
* Liaise with/ train non SLT staff e.g. college staff in the implementation of strategies. Including modelling of communication strategies, use of AAC etc.
* To provide written assessment, intervention and review reports as required.
