Health, Safety and Environment Manager role at Go North West, UK.
Purpose of Job
To lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and environment across Go North West, ensuring full legal compliance and promoting a culture of safety; to proactively prevent accidents, reduce risks, and drive continuous improvement in health and safety practice; to communicate regularly with various external stakeholders to influence how HSE is managed and improved in the wider franchise setting.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
 * Provide expert advice and support to directors, senior managers, and various other team members on health and safety matters.
 * Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies and procedures for the business, in line with legal requirements and industry best practice.
 * Ensure risk assessments are carried out and acted upon throughout Go North West operations.
 * Monitor compliance through regular audits, inspections, and reporting, and design and implement corrective actions where non‑compliance is found.
 * Maintain and expand the ISO accreditations held by Go North West.
 * Monitor the quality of works being carried out to ensure they are compliant with legislation and operating practices.
 * Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis and lessons learned are shared and embedded.
 * Liaise and engage with internal and external stakeholders, such as Trade Unions, HSE, and TfGM.
 * Deliver and coordinate training programmes to raise awareness and ensure competency in safe working practices.
 * Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
Key Competencies and Skills
 * Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its application.
 * Proven experience in a health and safety role, ideally in transport, logistics, or a safety‑critical environment.
 * Understanding and knowledge of ISO standards and working with them in practice.
Essential Qualifications
 * NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
 * Chartered Member of IOSH (or working towards).
 * Full and Valid UK driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications
 * Familiarity with IOSH approval/accreditation of training.
 * Experience working with trade unions.
 * Knowledge of environmental and occupational health practices, with the ability to apply them to different conditions, roles, and locations.

Working Conditions
Flexibility in working will be required, including from time to time working outside normal office hours to facilitate the role and play a full part in activities required to achieve success in the management of HSE.
