We are seeking a specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 3 child transitioning from a special school into a mainstream primary setting in Barnet. The student has a diagnosis of autism, is non-verbal, and currently working at a pre-reception level.
This role is a rewarding opportunity to work 1:1 in the mornings only, helping the child develop confidence, communication, and independence while supporting their integration into the classroom environment.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring patience, creativity, and a strong understanding of supporting children with autism and complex learning needs. You should be able to tailor learning approaches to the child’s developmental stage, while building a positive and trusting relationship.
Key attributes include:
• Prior experience in SEN support (especially autism and non-verbal communication)
• A nurturing, empathetic approach with excellent listening skills
• Ability to adapt teaching methods and use creative strategies to engage the student
• Strong collaboration with class teachers and SEN staff
