Occupational Therapy - Team Leader - North Mersey Stroke Service
A secondment opportunity until September 2026. Split post across acute stroke Aintree and ESD/LSRP BGH. Join the NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group as a team leader in the North Mersey Stroke Service.
Contract details: NHS AfC Band 7, Fixed term: 9 months (duration of maternity leave starting in September 2025), Full time – 37.5 hours per week, Salary £47,810 – £54,710 per annum (Yearly).

The role: Provide early intervention assessment, treatment planning and rehabilitation to stroke survivors. Work with an acute stroke team and the Liverpool Stroke recovery partnership/ESD team, supporting patients to remain in their own homes and avoid hospital re‑admission or 24-hour care.
You will lead a team of OTs, offering health and wellbeing support, clinical supervision, appraisal, training and service improvement. All training required will be available alongside regular supervision from a therapy lead.
Responsibilities:
* Expert assessment and rehabilitation of complex stroke patients, covering neurological assessment, cognitive skills, transfer equipment & posture management, splinting, fatigue and anxiety management, and return-to-work/drive support.
* Train and support the Stroke MDT in the management of complex patients.
* Develop and promote the role of the Occupational Therapist within Stroke, including service development projects and outcome reporting.
* Audit the service against local and national standards in partnership with the management team.
* Train and support junior staff across the stroke pathway.
* Provide senior oversight of a therapy team, including performance reporting, sickness management and supervision.
* Participate in the Stroke Network.
* Participate in national audit and research projects.
* Ensure adherence to governance processes including Datix and complaint investigations.
* Support staff with health, wellbeing and sickness management.
Qualifications – Essential:
* BSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC Registration.
* Specialist post‑registration qualification.
* Evidence of CPD.
Experience – Essential:
* Demonstrable postgraduate clinical experience.
* Active experience in audit.
* Supervision of staff and students.
* Teaching of junior staff.
* Experience of working with other agencies.
* Experience in a clinical speciality.
Skills – Essential:
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Good time management.
* Ability to implement change.
* Demonstrated leadership skills.
Desirable:
* Leadership course attendance e.g. LEO.
