Our UK and Continental Europe team continues to expand, and we are seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to support high‑profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio. This includes high‑voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.
You will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, from tendering through to project handover. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 * Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept/detailed design, design reviews, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
 * Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
 * Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
 * Ensure correct and accurate interfaces with other engineering functions, attend and conduct internal and external meetings with clients and subcontractors.
 * Perform technical calculations including cable sizing, rating calculations, torque and EMF calculations, sheath‑induced voltage calculations.
 * Perform design reviews and verification of designs.
 * Ensure all project designs comply with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
 * Assist with temporary works design schemes.
 * Maintain good working relations with clients, designers and the supply chain.
 * Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works and formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
 * Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP/Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.
Requirements:
 * Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
 * Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
 * Extensive experience in a cable‑related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
 * Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
 * Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
 * Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
 * Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
