Financial Controller – Single Family Office – Multi-Asset Investments – Essex, UK
A single-family office is seeking a highly skilled and detail-driven Financial Controller to support and strengthen its finance function across a diverse group of entities spanning multiple jurisdictions.
This is a pivotal role reporting to the Finance Director, combining statutory reporting, tax, treasury, and investment oversight with continuous process improvement.
You will be instrumental in driving accurate and timely reporting, implementing scalable systems, and providing insight-driven financial analysis that supports decision-making across property, treasury, and multi-asset investment portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare statutory accounts (FRS 102/105, IFRS, local GAAP) and oversee filing calendars across multiple jurisdictions.
• Deliver weekly cash-flow updates, monthly board packs, and rolling forecasts across property, treasury, and investment entities.
• Design and monitor KPIs for key asset classes (IRR, rental yields, NAV, liquidity).
• Lead on corporation tax, VAT (partial exemption, CGS, option-to-tax), SDLT, ATED, and securities CGT compliance.
• Support and manage HMRC enquiries, ensuring robust tax governance.
• Enhance finance systems, consolidate reporting tools, and automate workflows for efficiency and scalability.
• Implement fair-value models and liaise with valuers on quoted/unquoted investments.
• Oversee treasury and inter-company funding, FX management, and covenant monitoring.
• Mentor junior team members, provide insights to principals, and challenge outputs from third-party advisers.
Requirements
• Fully qualified accountant (ACCA or equivalent), with PQE in multi-asset or property-focused environments.
• Strong UK corporate tax and property VAT knowledge (including SDLT & ATED).
• Demonstrated success in implementing finance systems and scalable processes in complex structures.
• Advanced user of Xero and Excel/Sheets, with exposure to BI and consolidation tools.
• Experience in fair-value accounting, valuations, and multi-jurisdiction audits.
• Confident communicator, deadline-driven, and highly detail-focused.
• Change-oriented, with a track record of strengthening financial controls and processes.
• Background in Practice, exposure to FATCA/CRS, carried-interest waterfalls, or project methodologies (Lean/Prince2).
