Cycle Manager Job Description Join First Step Sports Group as a Cycle Manager, where you will lead sustainable travel initiatives and manage our cycle training department. This is a unique opportunity to inspire and promote physical activity among young people through cycling, while overseeing the delivery of high-quality training and engagement programmes across Hull and North Lincolnshire primary schools. We are looking for a motivated, organised, and passionate individual with leadership experience and a strong background in cycling and sustainable travel. You will be responsible for managing a team, coordinating department activities, and ensuring the successful delivery of our cycle training and Modeshift STARS programmes. Our divisions include First Step Physical Education, First Step Training, First Step Cycle, Ballers, and Kids Takeover. As part of our mission, First Step Cycle delivers Bikeability training, community cycling programmes, and sustainable travel initiatives. The Role As Cycle Manager (35 hours), you will: - Lead the cycle training department and manage a team of instructors. - Promote and implement sustainable travel plans in primary schools through Modeshift STARS (training will be provided) - Coordinate and deliver high-quality cycle training, including Bikeability Levels 1–3. - Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, local authorities, and community groups. - Monitor KPIs, manage departmental goals, and ensure quality assurance. - Support staff development, training, and performance reviews. - Oversee customer experience, marketing coordination, and service development. - Conduct risk assessments and ensure health & safety compliance. Key Responsibilities Manage departmental meetings, targets, and reporting. Deliver educational activities and events to promote active travel. Coordinate mapping meetings and customer inductions. Consult with funders and stakeholders. Maintain delivery standards and develop new services. Oversee staff inductions, training, and appraisals. Analyse data to evaluate programme effectiveness. Coordinate delivery resources and policy management. Health & Safety coordination and safeguarding monitoring. Knowledge and Experience Requirements Passionate and experienced cyclist with cycle maintenance skills. Experience working with children and schools. Strong leadership and project management skills. Knowledge of sustainable travel and active transport benefits. Proficient in Microsoft Office and data management tools. Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and health & safety. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role. 1st4Sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training (desirable - Training will be provided). Degree-level education and/or management qualification (desirable). Full clean UK driving licence and access to a car (essential).
