Overview

This role is based in Maidstone with flexible full- and part-time options. It has a fixed base location with an expectation to travel to other offices within the North Kent region as operational delivery requires. You will receive travel allowance at the relevant financial year rate and terms of contract. The role requires a flexible approach with start times from 7:00 AM and finish time around 16:45 PM and will include weekend shifts. The working pattern must include at least one weekend day; alternative days are to be agreed with the successful candidate. A typical full-time week is 37 hours over 4 days at 9.25 hours per day, including at least one weekend day; remaining days are to be discussed based on operational needs. A valid Manual driving licence is required.

Overview of the job: This is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. This may include driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment. The post holder will be responsible for all work site supervision tasks and will work with service users to ensure that all tasks are carried out to the best of their ability, including demonstrating good practice as necessary. You will work on varied projects involving practical tasks that should be seen by the public as credible punishment providing reparation to the community, and you will exercise appropriate authority to maintain discipline and good behaviour within working groups.

The post holder will contribute towards the rehabilitative potential of the sentence and will support some service users to gain employment skills through a positive work experience with the possibility of vocational or skills-based training. Staff are expected to contribute towards the review and evaluation of service delivery and to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Some weekend work may be required as part of the normal pattern. The work may involve collaborating with volunteers or staff from partner organisations. The job description is not exhaustive and may be subject to reasonable alterations and additional tasks as necessary.

An ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through English, or Welsh where specified in Wales, is required.

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. Hybrid Working blends working from base location, MoJ sites and/or from home. Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working; arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and reviewed regularly.

For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include the nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. Details will be discussed and agreed on completion of pre-employment checks.

Standard full-time working hours are 37 hours per week excluding unpaid breaks. The MoJ welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns where they meet the role and business needs. Experience and qualifications often required for this role include:

* Experience of Practical Skills
* UK Manual Driving Licence - Category D1 Minibus
* Evidence of commitment to teamwork
* Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise people constructively while maintaining authority
* Evidence of problem-solving within a workplace or similar environment
* Knowledge of safety at work, public protection and risk of harm in all aspects of work
* Basic knowledge of First Aid and willingness to undertake further training
* Willingness to attain IOSH L3 or equivalent and to attend further training
* Willingness to achieve and maintain L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent
* Ability to model pro-social attitudes and behaviour to service users
* Good written communication skills


Responsibilities, Activities & Duties

* Conduct Pre-Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions
* Conduct a start of day toolbox talk to ensure understanding of tasks, promote safe working practice, and motivate service users to complete their Order
* Follow work directions within the project placement file
* Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed; alert relevant staff to risks; complete required paperwork on time; contribute to placement risk assessment reviews
* Ensure appropriate tools, equipment and supplies are available and that instructions for safe use are followed
* Conduct dynamic risk assessments to note and manage hazards
* Use pro-social and other motivational techniques to encourage disciplined, well-behaved work completion
* Monitor attendance of service users allocated to agency placements and promote successful completions
* Maintain all service users' records in accordance with organisational requirements and update the case management system timely and accurately
* Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments for service users within the supervised work group
* Contribute towards promoting Community Payback with colleagues, external agencies, Sentencers and the public
* Demonstrate commitment to equality and inclusion in line with PS policies and procedures; handle sensitive/confidential information appropriately

* Working with regulatory and policy requirements; DBS Enhanced disclosure is required
* Licences: Full UK Manual Driving Licence required (Category D1 Minibus). Applications from those without a full manual licence will not be considered
