About the Energy Unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. We provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, and to decommissioning or repowering and life‑extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition worldwide.
Overview of the Role
Our team based in the United Kingdom and Italy is growing and we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead our detail design thermal process engineering team and owner engineering services for combined‑cycle projects. You will also work closely with team members, clients, and subcontractors, contributing to Mott MacDonald's growth in Italy.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Support proposal delivery and design for combined‑cycle projects, simple‑cycle gas turbine plants, hydrogen, CCUS and other energy‑transition projects.
* Lead the process engineering team to deliver detail design services.
* Provide consultancy and owner‑engineering services for projects.
* Assist with proposal preparation.
* Collaborate with other MM Group offices for proposals and project delivery.
* Travel abroad to meet clients during project delivery and proposals.
* Deliver projects in accordance with agreed schedules at all stages, including feasibility, planning, tender stage technical drawings, construction drawings, and design compliance monitoring at the construction stage for power‑plant applications.
* Coordinate with the client project team and internal disciplines within Mott MacDonald, including civil, mechanical, environmental.
* Enhance business development and deliver projects in new technologies such as hydrogen, CCUS, and thermal transition.
Candidate Specification (Essential)
* Mechanical Engineer with a MS degree in mechanical engineering and adequate experience in thermal power plant design and project implementation, covering proposal, engineering, procurement, construction, and performance test phases.
* Experience in international projects and environmental aspects.
* Knowledge of gas turbines, steam turbines, steam and water cycles, and balance of plant (BoP) systems for power plants.
* Team‑leading experience.
* Strong understanding of basic and detail design of thermal power plants, combined cycles, open‑cycle gas turbines, CHP, etc.
* Excellent oral and communication skills and proficiency in English.
