We are now looking for a Fashion Assistant and Filter fashion writer/contributor to join the Guardian fashion team, and the Filter - our consumer shopping section.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across two desks in editorial on a 3 day a week, 12 month fixed term contract or staff secondment.
About the Role
This position is split equally between the Fashion desk and the Filter. You'll have an active role in supporting fashion shoots and producing editorial content, while also contributing engaging fashion features with a focus on sustainability and affordability.
* Maintain register of press samples in and out of the building, ensuring returns are tracked and well managed, keep all corresponding paperwork up to date
* Assist our in-house fashion stylist on shoots which will typically, but not exclusively, involve steaming clothes; packing samples; helping out in the studio; providing refreshments, liaising with couriers and returning clothes to suppliers in good condition immediately after shoots
* Maintain the fashion cupboard, ensuring it is kept tidy at all times with samples being well looked after, labelled and protected from damage.
* Call in samples in both menswear and womenswear under the direction of the stylist and complete credits
The Filter responsibilities:
* Pitch, compile and write regular fashion shopping features for The Filter
* Collate product imagery from PRs for these features
* Contribute fashion ideas to gift guides throughout the year
* Assist the team in building and writing product galleries helping to make content web ready - use of Photoshop a plus but not essential
* Build on the Filter's commitment to sustainability with ideas for sustainable fashion features
About You
* Experience of working on fashion shoots, liaising with PRs and handling sample returns
* A demonstrable interest in fashion, as well as digital and print media
* Ability to write crisp, clean and entertaining copy to brief with a particular focus on both women's and men's fashion - some practical experience working for a publication is ideal
* Experience of dealing with people at different levels whilst managing conflicting priorities and supporting numerous senior colleagues
* Experience of organising merchandise and maintaining a log or register of goods received
* Ability to work to tight deadlines
* Come up with ideas for features and shopping pages
* A strong sense of the Guardian's brand when it comes to fashion with a focus on sustainability and affordability
