General Manager / Independent Mexican Restaurant
Cantina del Barrio is a Mexican restaurant in Cheltenham serving authentic Mexican food and drink in a relaxed, lively setting on Bath Road. We are looking for an energetic and capable General Manager to lead the team and drive the business on to further heights for the rest of 2025 and beyond.
About the Cantina:
We describe Cantina del Barrio as a 'Mexican Bar & Kitchen'. We're more than just a Bar & Kitchen though. We want to be a real part of our community, loved by our locals, and where we make a meaningful contribution to life in our little Barrio.
What really matters is what we offer, which falls into three parts:
Welcome and Atmosphere: This is crucial, and it's where everyone in the business plays a part. Every guest should feel completely welcome and at ease from the moment they enter the building and they should all leave feeling a bit better about themselves than when they walked in. We do this by providing warm, genuine, friendly hospitality and service, in an atmosphere that is vibrant, fun and buzzing.
Our Food:We serve Mexican and Latin-American food that is cooked with love, pride and passion, using the best and most authentic ingredients we can get our hands on. This is the heart and soul of our business.
Our Drinks: At heart we're as much a bar as a restaurant, so we also serve a great range of drinks designed to compliment the food. Margaritas, Beers, Wines and Tequilas - we pride ourselves on a superb range of the best quality drinks.
About the Role:
* £32,000 P/A starting salary growing to £34,000 after probation period sign off
* Share of tips (usually circa £300 per month),
* On target profit share = up to £8,000
* Total package up to £46,000 in the first year, and more as the business grows.
* Staff share incentive in place as a reward for success and longevity: The right candidate could gain a share incentive package once they've demonstrated they have what it takes.
* 42.5 hours per week. Hours can be flexible, although we do expect managers to prioritise the four key shifts every week to ensure our strongest team is always on at the busiest times.
* Potential for the role to develop, with opportunity for growth within our small group of independent businesses.
Ideal Experience & Characteristics:
* Experience working in restaurants or casual dining operations at a managerial level, with food and waiting experience.
* Personally demonstrates brilliant hospitality and welcome.
* Enjoys great food and drink, and can talk about it with passion and warmth.
* Demonstrates great attention to detail and pride in their business.
* Enjoys leading and training teams, and can demonstrate a strong track record of inspiring and encouraging strong teams around them.
* Keeps cool under pressure and is adaptable and resourceful.
* Strong communicator: to the team, to the guests, and to the Directors.
