In our quest to deliver patient-focused quality care we are looking to recruit highly motivated, innovative and enthusiasticMental Health Nursing Associates to join our forward thinking, friendly and expanding Female Service Line Health & Justice teams.

By joining our Prisons Health Care Team, you will not only look after the healthcare needs of our patients residing in secure environments, but who also have the opportunity to have a real impact on promoting health and well-being. Our healthcare services work to a 7 day week working model, to ensure our patient's healthcare is managed and maintained to the highest of standards at all times.

We are lucky to be able to offer opportunities to undertake your registered nursing degree via our apprenticeship route and can also offer all newly qualified nursing associates a 12 month preceptorship programme.


Main responsibilities

* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team & be accountable to the registered nurses they work with
* Be accountable as professionals registered with the NMC & work to the Code for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates
* Work to improve safety & the quality of care

As a Nurse Associate you may be expected to practice any of the skills listed in the NMC; Standards of Proficiency skills annexes or be responsible for the care delivered to a number of service users but you will always be supervised by a registered nurse & receive support from the wider multi- disciplinary team. We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together & in partnership with other teams & services to provide seamless care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of a Nursing Associate in Central and North West London NHS Trust show how you can help the Trust deliver safe, effective services and providing patients and families with a positive experience.

* Be accountable for your practice to a registered nurse
* Participate in regular supervision with that registered nurse
* Supervise, help training and delegate to other members of the team e.g. Health Care Assistants
* Participate in team meetings and help develop the team
* Contributing to creating and maintaining a high performing team by:
o communicating well with all members of the team
o understanding how your role helps the team achieve its objective
o understanding the roles of different team members and how they help the team achieve its’ objectives
o using supervision and team meetings to reflect on your own practice regularly
* Develop skills in relation to coaching/teaching individuals/carers/other staff
* Engage in reflective practice including management of self and reflection on own reactions, asking questions and reflecting on answers given

Work to improve safety and the quality of care:

As a Nursing Associate you will contribute to the provision of safe and high quality services by:

* Working to the standards set out in the NMC Code for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates
* Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals (including raising a safeguarding alert)
* Escalating safety concerns (including completing Datix) and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services
* Maintaining your competences and proficiencies in all the required areas for your role
* Maintaining compliance with your mandatory training requirements
* Working to the limit of your role but being clear not to work beyond your remit or scope of competency
* Understanding how you are accountable to registered nurses
* Identifying areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made and working closely with others to improve services
* Being open and transparent
* Maintaining accurate, legible, timely and comprehensive records
* Assist in the assessment of and contribute to the management of risk across several areas within the environment where care is being administered.


Person specification


Education and Qualifications

* GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths and English or key skills level 2 in Maths and English
* Demonstrable ability to study at Level 5 Diploma of Higher Education Level and commit to completing the Foundation Degree programme
* Qualified Nursing Associate
* Care certificate or equivalent


Previous Experience

* Experience of working in a health or caring setting
* Experience of working within a secure environment


Skills & Knowledge

* Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
* Understand the role of the Nursing Associate
* Evidence of time management skills and ability to prioritise
* Ability to communicate with members of the public and health and care providers
* Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of the workload and individual patient contact
* Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and well being (Making Every Contact Count)
* Willingness to learn and develop; recognises the need for flexibility
* Able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team


Other

* Ability to promote anti-discriminatory and anti-racist practices
* Ability to promote and work in line with the working model of a 7 day a week service
