Children's emergency department sister / charge nurse

Leicester
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
Charge nurse
Posted: 23 June
Offer description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Children’s ED nursing team.

The role of Sister / Charge Nurse is pivotal in providing leadership and support to our nursing team, ensuring the smooth running of shifts in a challenging, busy environment.

We have a purpose-built department for children that includes a high dependency area, resuscitation bays, sensory room, and vulnerable persons cubicles. Additionally, there is a 12-bedded Children’s Short Stay Unit (CSSU) co-located within Children’s ED.

Our facilities include a children’s ED educator to support the nursing team and a simulation pod to facilitate learning in a safe, well-equipped environment with the multidisciplinary team.

We seek enthusiastic, confident, and self-motivated nurses who possess excellent communication skills and enjoy a challenge. Applicants should thrive in a fast-paced acute environment and have a keen interest in maintaining high-quality nursing standards.

The post involves accountability for Children’s ED, requiring visibility, accessibility, and responsiveness to the needs of service users, patients, carers, and the public.

You will be an expert clinical practitioner, supporting the development of nursing staff (including ancillary and clinical support staff) to deliver excellent patient care. The role involves both clinical practice and managerial responsibilities.

You will provide direction and inspirational leadership to the nursing and multidisciplinary team within your area of responsibility, acting as a clinical and managerial role model within the team, the Clinical Management Group (CMG), and across the wider organization.

Responsibilities include creating a supportive learning environment for all students on placement within your unit and practicing clinically in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for a defined caseload.

The role requires the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively under pressure within a large multidisciplinary team, ensuring that trust values are incorporated into both clinical practice and team management.

Our new strategy (2023-2030), developed with input from colleagues, patients, and partners, focuses on four primary goals: high-quality care for all, being a great place to work, impactful partnerships, and research and education excellence. We are committed to embedding health equality into all aspects of our work, actively working to reduce healthcare disparities in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is supported by core values: compassion, pride, inclusiveness, and teamwork. We are excited about the future, with clarity on our strengths and areas for further development to better serve the people and communities we care for.
