Overview
Consultant in Gastroenterology
We are expanding our gastroenterology and hepatology team at the Great Western Hospital site and will be working across dual sites (Great Western Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon).
The department currently comprises 8 senior medical staff including Consultants and SAS doctors, operating across 4 endoscopy rooms with screening (ERCP/stenting). The Community Diagnostic Centre is planned to launch in October 2025, creating opportunities for innovation and expansion of the service.
The post holder will work across both sites, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests and to deliver teaching and supervision within a well-supported environment.
We use Olympus scopes and offer ERCP, EUS, BCSP, Small Bowel Capsule endoscopy, oesophageal dilatation, and one general anaesthetic (GA) list per month. Plans include oesophageal stenting, currently done in radiology, to be incorporated into gastroenterology screening lists in the future.
Interest in Nutrition / IBD / Hepatology is encouraged. Upper GI and HPB cancer care is managed collaboratively with Oxfordshire partners. MDTs are supported by pathology, radiology and surgical teams.
On joining, you will become part of a friendly, well-established team and contribute to ongoing service improvements. You will be offered a secretary and office space. As a senior team member, you will help train and supervise junior colleagues and oversee wellbeing initiatives for staff.
If you would like to find out more or arrange a brief department walk around, please contact Claire Milne, Assistant General Manager, at claire.milne15@nhs.net.
We look forward to hearing from you!
