Overview
These are replacement appointments following expansion of services and the retirement of existing consultants. The post is for a General Consultant Anaesthetist where special interests in most major sub‑specialties of anaesthesia can usually be accommodated. The James Paget University Hospital, The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn are working in partnership as the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group.
All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Some clinical procedures or services the appointee will be expected to deliver may be based at sites other than their primary site of employment. The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals.
Responsibilities and Duties
The appointee will take his/her share of clinical responsibilities within the Department of Anaesthesia, including provision for peri‑operative assessment clinics where required. In addition to duties within subspeciality, the appointee will be required to provide anaesthesia for adult patients in all specialties as appropriate to training and experience. There is an on‑call commitment of approximately 1:20, with a separate consultant on‑call rota for paediatric anaesthesia, weekend and bank holiday day trauma theatres, intensive care medicine and obstetric anaesthesia.
Governance and Professional Development
All postholders, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.
