Cornwall Council is passionate about Community Wellbeing, and we work with a range of health and voluntary sector partners to enable our communities to ‘start well, live well and age well’. As part of our pioneering approach, we are bringing together our Public Health, Waste, Regulatory and Community Services to create a unified and unwavering focus on providing excellent services to our residents now and into the future. This strategy is underpinned by a critical focus on prevention, community involvement and partnership working, and this role is right at the heart of our next phase of transformation and improvement. Our Health & Wellbeing Strategy for 2030 is simple, powerful and inspiring: by working together to tackle health inequalities, we believe everyone can enjoy good health and wellbeing. As the statutory Director of Public Health, you’ll take responsibility for shaping and promoting a clear public health vision across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and developing a strong, expert and influential team which ensures that public health themes underpin of all our wellbeing work. You’ll engage with elected members, communities and system partners to ensure that you have a nuanced and empirical understanding of the issues, context and potential for transformative public health work. Candidates must be registered public health specialists, and able to demonstrate high levels of competence in the ten criteria stipulated by the Faculty of Public Health. As well as an excellent technical skillset, you will bring a wealth of practical knowledge and insight into how we can optimise and integrate our services to make life better for residents. It’s essential that you understand the significance of being a visible, influential leader of place, and that you can make an immediate and valuable contribution to the wider responsibilities of the Council’s senior leadership team. Extensive experience in a comparable role would be a definite advantage, as would a good grasp of how to work effectively with system partners across an extensive geography.
