Control Systems Engineer
Join us at RSE in our Basingstoke office delivering solutions to the Water industry. You will be involved in the development, commissioning and support of automation and control systems solutions, as well as design, specification, programming, simulation, testing and start‑up assistance.
Key Responsibilities
* Be responsible for the appropriate planning and carrying out of intrusive surveys on live Control Systems and identify and manage the associated risks.
* Develop detailed design proposals that establish the scope of work for new build and ICA refurbishment projects.
* Define Control Systems hardware and software requirements.
* Assist electrical engineers with the development of robust Control Systems Architectures using appropriate technology per Client, WIMES and industrial standards.
* Provide specialist ICA assistance to the Engineer during the development of the Control Philosophy.
* Define the project Software Testing strategy and ensure appropriate time and resources are allocated.
* Identify programme requirements to deliver Control Systems elements to achieve project milestone dates.
* Develop detailed Functional Design Specifications and related schedules from the agreed Control Philosophy following the Company’s Quality procedures.
* Implement robust change control throughout the project lifecycle.
* Develop and self‑test control system software to achieve required functionality in accordance with the FDS.
* Develop Factory Acceptance Test Documentation.
* Fully document, resolve and re‑test any defects identified during testing.
* Provide specialist control system assistance to the Commissioning Teams within the workshop and on site in conjunction with the RSE PM.
* Carry out Site Acceptance Testing of the Control Systems against the SAT document.
* Investigate and provide technical advice and support to design, delivery and senior management teams on automation related issues.
* Manage the specification, development, installation and validation of automation projects within budget and corporate guidelines.
Qualifications & Skills
* HNC/HND Degree in Engineering or equivalent, with emphasis in electrical, mechanical, electronic, automation and/or chemical disciplines.
* Proven ability in the design and commissioning of control and electrical systems in process automation, preferably in the Hydro power and Water sector.
* Experience developing Control Systems solutions using PLCs and HMI/SCADA and telemetry systems with manufacturers such as Allen Bradley/ Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi.
* Knowledge of Profibus, ProfNet, Ethernet, Modbus and DH+ systems.
* Experience with integration and modification of PLC control systems in a live environment.
* Strong working knowledge of process systems, P&ID control and loop tuning.
* Working knowledge and understanding of electrical schematics.
* Flexible and willing to travel, including regular site work.
* Valid ECS/CSCS card.
* SIM EMS/Rockwell certification.
* Full UK driving licence.
