GSL Education is recruiting a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary special school in St Leonards. The school supports pupils aged 4–11 with a wide range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language delays, and sensory processing difficulties.
What You’ll Do:
Support children with complex needs either 1:1 or in small groups
Use strategies like PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables to aid communication
Help pupils manage their emotions, stay regulated, and feel safe
Encourage independence through play-based and practical learning
Work closely with teachers, SEN specialists, and therapists
Provide personal care where required (training given)
Who We’re Looking For:
Someone experienced in SEN settings or with transferable child support skills
Confidence supporting children with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or SLCN
Calm, empathetic, and able to respond to challenging behaviours
Comfortable using (or learning) SEN tools and communication aids
A strong understanding of safeguarding and a child-first mindset
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
