Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Location: Barnsley Salary: £85 – £110 per day (depending on experience) Start Date: Immediate Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time Do you have a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Barnsley. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient, and motivated to make a positive impact on the lives of children who need extra emotional and behavioural support. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include: Provide tailored one-to-one or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs. Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation through clear strategies. Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons. Build strong, trusting relationships with students to promote confidence and self-esteem. Monitor and record progress, sharing updates with teachers and support staff. Support pupils during lessons and transitions to ensure their wellbeing and focus. Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to meet individual needs. To be a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will require: Previous experience supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs. Qualifications in education, youth work, or psychology are desirable but not essential. A calm, empathetic, and understanding nature. Strong communication and teamwork skills. A genuine desire to help children overcome barriers to learning. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one). Why work with GSL Education?
