Your new company
Hays Accountancy and Finance are partnering with a prominent public sector body for the immediate appointment of a Finance Manager for a period of 3 to 6 months.
Your new role
Responsibilities include providing senior management with relevant and timely financial and management information, such as management accounts, cost centre reports, and budget/forecast reports.
You will be responsible for preparing realistic budgets at both organizational and cost centre levels, along with monthly forecasts.
Additional duties involve producing financial reports for monthly financial reporting, quarterly monitoring, budget re-profiles, and other ad hoc reports for stakeholders and third parties.
You will oversee procurement functions, support the development of business cases, and advise managers accordingly.
Preparation of annual statutory accounts for audit, ensuring compliance with relevant guidance, and completing the Whole of Government Accounts are also key responsibilities.
Liaising with the NI Audit Office, internal auditors, and other organizations as required.
Managing annual pay remits and business cases for pay award approvals.
Maintaining and developing the organization’s computerized accounting system, including the chart of accounts.
Ensuring adherence to the prompt payment code, and that accounts are paid accurately and timely each month.
Updating and maintaining fixed asset registers and records management within the finance function.
Managing, leading, supervising, and supporting finance staff, including performance appraisals.
Assisting the Directorate in delivering value and professional service, including developing performance indicators.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential Criteria
* Qualified accountant with full membership of one of the following:
* The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland
* The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland
* The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales
* The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
* The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy
* The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland
* The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
And have either:
* A degree (minimum 2:2) and at least 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a finance department,
* Or at least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a finance department.
Additional experience should include:
* Preparation of financial statements.
* Preparation of management accounts.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in public sector accounting.
* Experience with accrual-based financial statements, financial reporting standards, and developing accounting policies.
* Management of financial systems and processes.
* Development of financial planning and budgeting systems.
