The primary purpose of this role is to manage the safe and efficient recycling of sewage sludge (biosolids) into agriculture within a specific geographical area. This role offers the opportunity to build relationships with customers, landowners, agronomists, agents, and rural communities. The role involves significant stakeholder management, liaising with environmental health officers, the Environment Agency, and local communities.
Responsibilities include coordinating with the wider recycling team, managing site operations, contractors’ health and safety, and agricultural performance.
What you’ll be doing as an Agricultural Recycling Manager
1. Managing and developing a dispersed technical team to meet performance targets.
2. Ensuring a safe working environment, adhering to HR policies and health & safety standards.
3. Coaching, training, and mentoring team members.
4. Overseeing the recycling of sewage sludge to agricultural customers.
5. Building and maintaining relationships with farmers, landowners, and rural stakeholders to promote biosolids as a fertilizer replacement.
6. Liaising with environmental authorities and local communities to minimize environmental and public impact.
7. Managing the recycling operation, contracts, and improving financial performance.
8. Monitoring contractor health and safety performance.
9. Sourcing land for biosolids recycling, maintaining a land bank for future needs.
10. Managing the sales process, including soil sampling, risk assessments, permits, and order management via TDS software.
11. Adapting to business requirement changes within your area.
12. Developing procedures to improve performance and compliance with regulations.
13. Strategic planning to optimize workflow and financial control.
14. Staying updated with qualifications, policies, and health & safety requirements.
This is a field-based role covering the Essex area, working 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday. A driver’s license is required as a work van will be provided.
What you should bring to the role
* An agricultural background with knowledge of rural practices, preferably with sales experience in biosolid management.
* Confidence in communicating with farmers, agronomists, and contractors.
* Organizational skills, flexibility, and self-management abilities.
* Awareness of current agricultural legislation, such as the Nitrates Directive and Cross-Compliance.
* FACTS or BASIS training is advantageous.
What’s in it for you?
* Competitive salary from £35,000 to £44,000 per annum.
* 26 days holiday, increasing to 30 with service, plus bank holidays.
