Job Duties

For more than three decades, the Virginia Lottery has worked to build a strong reputation, one synonymous with providing fun, entertaining experiences and doing so responsibly and with integrity. Proceeds from traditional Lottery games support K – 12 public education in Virginia. Taxes generated by sports wagering and casino gaming, which are regulated by the Lottery, benefit other priorities of the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Lottery, an independent state agency, is currently seeking a Customer Service Associate to join its team.

The Customer Service Associate will be responsible for delivering “WOW” customer experiences to internal and external stakeholders, including players, retailers, Lottery employees, and the general public via telephone and face-to-face interactions.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Validating and processing payments of winning ticket claims from the Virginia Lottery’s instant and terminal-generated games.

Greeting the general public and providing applicable information regarding the Lottery, as well as its policies and regulations.

Processing federal, state, and debt set-off tax withholding payments.

Processing retailer licensing paperwork, including licensing applications and renewals.

Preparing check and money orders for bank deposits of applications, bonding, and installation fees.

Coordinating installations and de-installations of equipment.

Additional responsibilities include:

Providing support for the Lottery Sales team and assisting in a variety of projects on an as-needed basis in support of the Lottery’s strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision and handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions concurrently.

Experience working in a high-volume data processing work environment with the ability to meet critical deadlines.

Effective communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and listening skills.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive material.

Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, research, problem-solving, and time management practices.

High School diploma or equivalent.

Proficiency in desktop applications such as, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, and integrated automated system applications.

An equivalent combination of training and professional work experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.

Additional Considerations

Bachelor's Degree in some general business field.

Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a customer service business environment.

Experience working in a Lottery.

General knowledge of advanced business and computer applications.

Experience in general office and administrative work, data processing and data entry.

The selected candidate must be able to complete a background investigation and possess a valid Driver’s License. Minimum travel required.
