Job summary
We are growing our team to complement the opening of new Community Diagnostic Centres in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The post holder will join our scientists and technologists providing comprehensive scientific support to the diagnostic radiology services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and their external customers, including CDCs.
The role will include contributions to all scientific aspects of the service: routine, developmental and research. As a Medical Physics Expert, the post holder will have a key role in supporting optimisation in diagnostic radiology. The post holder will perform and analyse quality assurance tests and patient dose surveys across all modalities, and will have the opportunity to support the section's occupational radiation protection activities and to obtain RPA certification.
The post holder will be expected to undertake research and development and participate in the Department's teaching programmes.
Nottingham University Hospitals includes the City Hospital Campus and the Queen's Medical Centre Campus with the city centre CDC due to open later this year. The post holder will spend significant time at both campuses and will be required to travel to our external customers in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, as required. It is expected that the post holder will initially be based at the QMC Campus.
Main duties of the job
Provide scientific support to Diagnostic Radiology.
Participate in patient dosimetry programmes including coordinating the routine patient dosimetry programme, analysing the data and making recommendations on improvements to practice.
Calculate information regarding radiation exposure to staff, patients, and others and put these into a context that can be understood.
Perform risk assessments to ensure that radiation doses received by staff, patients and members of the public are "as low as reasonably practicable".
Perform or support the performance of regulatory compliance audits.
Participate in routine and acceptance testing of equipment to ensure that it meets specification and is safe to use with patients.
Participate in the specification and procurement of medical radiological equipment.
Identify possible service developments and new areas of work so as to maximise the benefit of our service to patients and other customers.
