The role
As a Mechanical Fitter within our Shiplift Facility, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of operations that keep our naval assets mission ready. This is a hands-on role where your mechanical expertise will directly support national defence, making a real impact on the safety and security of the UK.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
1. Completing planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated tasks.
2. Performing mechanical fitting, inspections and repairs on Shiplift systems and equipment.
3. Identifying and resolving system defects to maintain performance and availability.
4. Suggesting improvements to systems and processes to boost productivity.
5. Working safely within all health and safety legislation and company policies.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday, 07:15 to 16:45 and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter
6. Background in marine or industrial engineering, with mechanical maintenance experience.
7. Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in all weather conditions.
8. Able to read technical drawings and solve problems with precision and attention to detail.
9. Skilled in fault finding and delivering high-quality work to strict standards.
10. Familiar with maintenance procedures, COSHH, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter
11. Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ/C&G equivalent), or HNC and above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
