How you\\\'ll make a differenceThe work of the Corporate Traveller Unit offers support and assistance to Gypsy, Roma and Traveller families and young people with all aspects of benefits and housing related issues. By working with and supporting these families across our two council owned sites in Patchway and Winterbourne and private sites in the homes of housed families, you will empower them to manage their benefits and housing related issues and encourage education attendance. What you will be doingRegularly, you will visit homes to build relationships with families, ensuring they are willing to engage. You may support them with form filling and reading and explaining letters that arrive regarding benefits, housing and other issues.It will be your responsibility to ensure work logs and visit notes are kept up to date and submit these reports to your line manager as requested.You will liaise with the appropriate agencies to problem solve debt, housing and benefit related issues such as rent arrears by working in partnership with the Traveller Unit Officers to help prevent evictions.As required, you will attend multiagency meetings such as workers group meetings, social care and other professional meetings, to contribute information.It will be key for you to work in partnership with agencies to promote education, equal opportunities and race equality policies in relation to Gypsies, Roma and Travellers.You may need to participate in drop-in centres and training events when required. What we need from youIt is essential you are either NVQ3 qualified e.g. Certificate in Work with Parents or Diploma in Health and Social Care or hold an equivalent level qualification or have equivalent level of recent experience in a similar service e.g. childcare, social work, social care, counselling, youth work or education.We require you to have knowledge in working with Gypsy and Traveller communities and/or multicultural environments, benefits, housing and educational expectations and up to date knowledge of child protection and multi-agency working. Given the elements of this role, you will have the ability to work impartially with fairness, diplomacy, tact and absolute confidentiality and able to work independently, flexibly and as an effective member of a team to help parents develop the skills they need to self-manage. You must be able to build good relationships with families that may be wary at first, be committed to supporting people in difficult circumstances with the ability to stay calm under pressure.You will be motivated to find solutions to problems quickly, sometimes in challenging circumstances and can communicate sensitively and effectively with understanding, patience and good listening skills with children and adults.We require you to have good IT skills in the use of Microsoft Office and use of databases. What you need to know This is a part-time role, working 22.5 hours per week. Your salary will be pro-rated to hours worked.This is a one year limited term contract.This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our offices in Yate and working from home.Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel. Business insurance will need to be added to your insurance policy.You can claim back mileage expenses.We are also offering this as an internal secondment opportunity, you should first seek your line managers permission before applying.Interviews will be held on Wednesday 21st May 2025.
