Lead and Innovate in Breast Radiology in South West Wales
Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) is seeking a Consultant Radiologist with a special interest in Breast Radiology to join a well‑established and forward‑thinking Radiology Department serving South West Wales.
This is a new substantive post, based primarily at Singleton Hospital, within a highly supportive multidisciplinary breast service delivering high‑quality diagnostic and interventional breast imaging.
About the Service
The Breast Unit at Singleton Hospital is well equipped with:
1. 2 Mammography rooms (Hologic & Fuji)
2. 2 Ultrasound rooms (Samsung)
3. Dedicated reporting rooms, counselling facilities, and prosthesis fitting rooms
4. Strong Breast Care Nursing and HCA support
There is also scope for screening sessions with Breast Test Wales in Swansea.
Main Duties of the Role
5. Diagnostic mammography reporting
6. Breast and axillary ultrasound
7. Image‑guided breast and axillary biopsies
8. Participation in symptomatic breast clinics
9. Active involvement in the Breast MDT
Desirable additional experience includes:
10. Vacuum‑assisted biopsy/excision
11. Pre‑operative localisation techniques
12. Breast MRI reporting
13. Contrast‑Enhanced Spectral Mammography (CESM)
You will also contribute to teaching radiology trainees, advanced practitioners, and medical students, and be encouraged to engage with national and international clinical trials.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
14. Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
15. On the GMC Specialist Register in Radiology (or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
16. FRCR (or equivalent recognised qualification)
17. Proven experience in breast imaging, including mammography and breast ultrasound
18. Strong MDT working, communication, and leadership skills
Desirable Criteria
19. Subspecialist experience in advanced breast interventions
20. Teaching or medical education qualification
21. Research or audit involvement
22. Experience with service development and innovation
