Perinatal Wellbeing Health Visitor

The closing date is 16 April 2026

The Perinatal Mental Health SCPHN will work across the 0-5 Health Visiting service providing expert health support and knowledge. The role involves supporting a caseload of families identified as needing additional wellbeing support in the perinatal period.

The post holder will offer advice and support to families using evidence‑based tools and encourage parents to access community‑based services and evidence outcomes utilising Warwick‑Edinburgh Mental Health Scale.


Main duties of the job

Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct, maintaining professional competence and standards.

Deliver the commissioned service; prioritising, managing time and resources effectively in line with best practice.

Utilise specialist skills and knowledge to assess the health and health related needs of children and their families. Support identification and delivery of care in line with the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) for 0-5 and the Perinatal Wellbeing model.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* A Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor) with an active registration.
* A Master's or working towards a masters related to Perinatal Mental Health
* Level 7 modules in Maternal infant attachment and or perinatal mental health
* HV Perinatal Mental Health Train the Trainer qualification.
* A qualification, or have undertaken a program of formal training in Clinical Supervision Specialist Qualification in CBT, or other appropriate therapy
* A qualification, or have undertaken a program of formal training in Clinical Supervision


Experience

* Demonstrable post qualification experience, including experience of working with clients with children young people and families.
* Managing and prioritising a complex caseload
* Experience of Multi‑Disciplinary Working
* Competencies in providing expert health support and decision making in early help and complex safeguarding referrals
* Currently engaged in an advanced level of practice and able to demonstrate a degree of professional autonomy
* The ability to provide patient‑centred assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation with children, young people, parents and families using mental health nursing skills.
* Ability to undertake Risk Assessments and identify appropriate plans in partnerships with the young person, families and other agencies
* Experience in delivering comprehensive family work in a child and family setting
* Experience in using the Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing scale.
* Experience in using the 5 ways to wellbeing framework
* oPlanning and delivering presentations and training to groups


Knowledge

* Highly competent in making a decision regarding ongoing patient care based on clinical and risk factors
* High level of problem solving and planning skills
* Effective communication skills with all disciplines and agencies to optimise patient management
* Awareness of own competency level and how to seek appropriate help
* Understanding of confidentiality and risk management.
* Clinical audit, research and clinical governance principles
* Knowledge of ethical and legal principles of Specialist Community Public Health practice.
* Ability to undertake Risk Assessments and identify appropriate plans in partnerships with the young person, families and other agencies
* dentification and evaluation of the best evidence‑based practice in order to deliver effective health care intervention.
* Have a good understanding of child protection/safeguarding policies, recording and reporting any concerns to the appropriate agency including participate in case conferences as required.

* A clear understanding of the Early Help ethos and building Stronger Families programme
