Mechanical QA/Tester
Location: Canary Wharf, London
Job Type: Permanent or LTD (Contract)
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum (or equivalent LTD rate, negotiable depending on experience)
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading M&E contractor delivering a major high-rise mixed-use scheme in Canary Wharf. With a project duration exceeding 90 weeks and further phases in the pipeline, this is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical QA/Tester seeking a long-term, technically challenging role on a prestigious build.
This role is suited to someone with a strong mechanical background and a deep understanding of pressure testing, commissioning protocols, and QA documentation across large-scale residential and commercial projects.
The Role:
The Mechanical QA/Tester will be responsible for overseeing all pressure testing, inspection, and handover documentation across the site’s mechanical systems. Working closely with the commissioning manager, subcontractors, and senior management, you will ensure all works meet compliance and quality standards for final sign-off.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct and oversee pressure testing of LTHW, CHW, boosted cold water, and domestic hot water systems
2. Prepare and manage test packs, witnessing sheets, sign-off records, and QA logs
3. Collaborate with the commissioning team to ensure systems are tested, flushed, and balanced in line with project milestones
4. Identify installation defects or non-compliant works and ensure remedial actions are carried out
5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with the main contractor’s QA procedures
6. Liaise with site supervisors, project managers, and subcontractors to coordinate inspections and system readiness
7. Contribute to the development of commissioning plans and support final handover documentation
Requirements:
* Proven experience working as a Mechanical QA/Tester or Mechanical Supervisor with testing and commissioning duties
* Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems within large-scale residential or commercial projects
* Familiarity with producing and managing QA documentation and test packs
* Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and commissioning plans
* CSCS card and relevant mechanical qualifications (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent)
* Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
* SMSTS or SSSTS (but not essential)
