Job description
The Assistant Tax Manager will provide support to the Group Tax Manager in helping the Group meet its tax compliance obligations, for example regarding corporation tax, employment tax and VAT.
Working closely with our Belfast based Public Sector Clients Group Tax Manager, the successful post holder will gain exposure to a wide range of areas including: (not limited to)
1. Substantial capital allowances claims on assets specific to the water industry
2. Corporate loss relief restrictions and tax planning exercises
3. Employment tax calculations and submissions
4. VAT compliance and advisory work
5. Corporate projects such as new systems implementations
6. HMRC enquiries

Candidates will be required to demonstrate technical tax knowledge prior to interview.

Essential Criteria:
7. Qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Tax
or
8. Qualified member of the Association of Tax Technicians with at least 2 years post-qualification experience in a tax environment
or
9. Qualified member of a recognised Accountancy body with at least 5 years' experience in UK tax
and
10. Strong technical knowledge across two or more of the following taxes: corporation tax, VAT, income tax, capital gains tax
11. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel in a finance environment
Desirable Criteria:
12. Professional knowledge and experience in respect of Oracle or other large financial systems
13. Experience with One Source corporate tax software
14. Experience of preparing Group VAT returns
A hybrid working arrangement will become eligible after a 3 month training and onboarding period.
