Analytical Geochemist
BGS INORGANIC GEOCHEMISTRY LABORATORIES
Grade: UKRI Pay Band C/S2
Salary: £31,298 per annum
Benefits include a generous pension scheme (average 27% employer contribution), 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours/week, with flexible options; role is laboratory-based and onsite.
Location: BGS headquarters, Keyworth, Nottingham

About the role
The role involves operating and maintaining analytical chemistry equipment to generate geochemistry data meeting ISO17025 standards, supporting research and client reporting, and method development for research collaborations. Responsibilities include:
* Wet chemistry dissolution and extractions
* Operation of equipment like Ion Chromatograph, MP-AES
* Supporting ancillary techniques
* Data reporting and client liaison
* Training visitors and students
* Fieldwork in the UK and internationally
About you
Applicants should be recent graduates or experienced in analytical chemistry labs, familiar with ISO17025 standards, with a degree in chemistry or related field. Opportunities include developing analytical solutions, coordinating data, and occasional travel. Essential skills include:
* Degree in Chemistry or related
* Experience with environmental sample analysis and ISO17025
* Operation and maintenance of analytical equipment
* Teamwork, independence, proactive attitude
* Data coordination skills
* Driving license and ability to travel

Desirable skills include MSc in Chemistry, experience in biogeochemistry, communication skills, and understanding of business needs.
