We are working with a regional contractor based in Newbury for a Design Manager to join the team.
Company Overview
They are an established contractor across the South, aiming to grow their workload through selective tendering. Their projects include a mix of repeat business from satisfied previous clients and new opportunities with targeted clients, projects, and marketplaces. They utilize negotiation, 2-stage tendering, and competitive bids, and have recently been appointed to several new framework agreements.
Project Types and Values
Typical projects range from £5 to £30 million. Most are negotiated or involve 2-stage schemes. They have a strong track record in delivering schools, NHS, healthcare, student accommodation, hotels, leisure, retail, care homes, and residential schemes. They are now exploring opportunities with local authorities, education, and healthcare developments through frameworks.
Role Responsibilities
1. Take full ownership of all design-related work from tender to project completion.
2. Support ongoing projects in construction to assist delivery teams and supply chains.
3. Collaborate with preconstruction teams on new opportunities.
4. Work with estimating, bid teams, project managers, and directors to build and manage project teams through all phases.
5. Leverage established relationships with local authorities, consultants, architects, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to challenge and improve design quality, speed, and buildability.
Candidate Requirements
* Experience with BIM and BREEAM standards.
* Background working with main or regional contractors on design and build schemes.
* Ability to manage critical aspects of schemes, including groundworks, building services, and envelope packages.
