Overview
Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666
Role within the Environment Agency to influence the design and delivery of Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes, including Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). The ELM team works to inform and shape the future of ELM, delivering public goods for water, soil and biodiversity alongside farming and land management, in support of the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, the environment and climate.
Responsibilities
The role will:
* Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones
* Identify future risks and resource requirements
* Work across multiple teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports outcomes
* Contribute to continuous improvement of CSHT through its design and delivery
The team sits within the Nature & Place Directorate, part of the National Agriculture and Land Team, collaborating with government, statutory bodies and industry. We operate in an agile, fast-paced, flexible and collaborative environment and encourage a welcoming, safe, and inclusive culture. Some travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential
* Political awareness with excellent communication and networking skills
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose effective risk-based solutions for challenging problems
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who actively develops and takes ideas forward
