We’re supporting our client, a global, leading automotive manufacturer based in Banbury, who are looking for an MES Engineer to join their growing team. The successful MES Engineer will have previous experience of project management and will have worked within an FMCG environment.
Job Summary: As MES Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that MES software solutions are properly planned, designed, and selected, and that related MES functions and procedures are implemented, maintained, supported, and executed. This position requires an overall understanding of production processes, and thorough knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure, hardware, PLC’s, ERP, Development languages and other software systems.
Responsibilities for MES Engineer:
* Maintain, support and update all MES systems within the Banbury plant.
* Coordinate the MES Technician(s) to ensure a balanced work load and knowledge transfer within the team.
* Work in conjunction with production, process, and automation teams to develop the most robust PLC to MES communication interfaces.
* Develop standards/specifications/requirements for MES functionality & processes in an effort to minimize the number of MES or third party software solutions and further enhance the MES systems for new lines / products
* Determine how Engineering Changes (EC) in the MES will be managed and work with APQP on specific part number changeovers and proper execution where necessary. This includes ensuring new product labelling changes and initial product tagging systems.
* Develop custom reports, dashboards, and labelling updates as required.
* Monitor sequenced and batch assembly lines and enable rapid decision-making relating to the management of live broadcasts, minimizing scrap and mismatched sequences.
* Engage with senior leadership on projects, continuous improvements initiatives and daily issues.
* Work with 3rd party suppliers and Developers, ensuring solutions are developed, tested and deployed in line with change control processes
* Follow and develop time lines and ensure program launch check lists are up to date.
* Participate in open issues meetings with the knowledge to address updates and timing.
* Participate in the Out of Hours call rota.
* Perform in a self-driven manner, adapting work schedules to manage timelines and the flexibility to travel, possibly for extended periods of time.
* Continuously improve processes utilizing synchronous and lean manufacturing techniques to improve labour efficiencies and quality.
* Assist in investigating customer and plant quality issues and implement corrective action plans to improve.
* Converting business requirements into development specifications.
* Participate in operations meetings at facilities where located and working on projects.
* Maintain strong plant floor presence, working closely with the manufacturing teams. Take a “hands on” approach to all areas of molding, painting, assembly and sequencing.
* Exhibit teamwork skills and actively participate in team activities in a positive working environment.
* Demonstrate problem-solving skills in a work environment that is striving for continuous improvement.
About You:
* Previous experience in manufacturing environment
* Specific implementation/support experience with a third-party MES application – i.e. Apriso, InSequence, Nysus, Solidat or other.
* Knowledgeable background interfacing with PLC and ERP environments.
* Knowledge and experience in scripting languages and writing customer queries, reports
* Experience with databases and queries (Oracle/PostgreSQL desired)
* Experience of PLC and ERP interfacing with other systems.
* Proficient computer skills a must (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, PowerBI)
* Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and participate as a team player.
* Strong communication and analytical skills, problem solving & interpersonal skills.
