Description ABOUT THE ROLE This role involves the collection and analysis of energy related data from university buildings to help improve the energy efficiency of the estate and assist with our aims to minimise costs and reduce carbon emissions. Your key challenge will be to identify where provision of heating, lighting, cooling and ventilation provides opportunities for optimisation. This will involve interpreting information from building users, energy meters and building management systems, as well as taking direct measurements of air temperature, water consumption, light levels, ventilation rates and air quality as required to verify the efficient operation of key buildings. Your findings will support the Carbon Manager and other colleagues in the Facilities and Estates Team to reduce energy use, costs and carbon emissions from university buildings, aligned with our aims to reduce estate operating costs and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Further information is available in the job description. ABOUT THE TEAM You will be working within our busy Facilities and Estates team, supporting the Carbon Manager and working closely with the in-house maintenance team and external maintenance providers to improve the energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of university buildings. We are based at Northumbria University's City Campus and also provide our services at Coach Lane Campus. ABOUT YOU We are looking for a candidate who meets the knowledge, understanding and experience criteria below: Strong numeracy skills, combined with demonstrable ability to use standard software packages such as MS Excel or Power BI to collate, interpret and visualise energy related data are essential. A basic understanding of energy efficiency principles in relation to the provision of heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting, power and methods used to identify savings opportunities. Knowledge of, and interest in, the key drivers for reducing energy and water use, costs and carbon emissions. Experience of interpreting basic BMS/BEMS front-end graphics and knowledge of associated controls typically found in university buildings would be desirable. Knowledge of typical approaches used to measure energy and water efficiency, including hardware, software and analysis techniques. Previous experience with energy management software (i.e. Systems Link, Team EA etc.), or willingness to undertake training, is essential.
