Description Job Description Are you interested in ensuring that the Scottish Government's Finance Profession is set up for future success? The Scottish Government’s Finance Profession works to support and develop financial capabilities and expertise, drive innovation and collaboration, and support solutions to challenges and opportunities across government. As the Finance Profession Manager, you will support the Chief Financial Officer as Head of Finance Profession develop and deliver the projects and strategies that will realise these objectives, in close collaboration with finance colleagues across SG. A strong and effective finance function is essential to the effective stewardship of public money and to delivering the Scottish Government’s priorities. Operating at the centre of the organisation, you will have connections across the Scottish Government, and with a range of stakeholders including professional bodies, and the UK Civil Service's Government Finance Function. You will also help support and deliver an integrated approach across the Scottish Government’s 21 professions. Leading the Scottish Government’s small finance profession and capability team, you will also oversee work to understand and address a range of training needs for both non-finance and qualified staff across the organisation, including in relation to our new Oracle Cloud system. Responsibilities Support the Head of Profession in developing and delivering the Profession Strategy, including in relation to profession workforce planning and position management, capability development, and optimising the finance operating model for the directorate and the wider organisation. Lead the Finance Profession & Capability Team, comprising three Finance Trainers. Oversee and support the work of the Finance Profession Governance Board to shape and champion the profession’s strategic objectives, monitor outcomes, and influence associated projects. Liaise with the wider civil service, Scottish public bodies and relevant external organisations to develop and coordinate the profession, and with professional bodies that regulate membership and govern professional accreditation. Scope and manage a range of training and development initiatives for professional staff, including annual CPD training, to support compliance and competence and drive a continuous improvement culture. Lead work to identify, develop, and deliver relevant training materials on policies and processes, including for non-finance staff and system users across the organisation. In partnership with participating business areas, manage and develop the Scottish Government Trainee Accountant Programme, including recruitment, mentoring, and trainee networks. Develop a range of additional initiatives or policies that improve financial maturity across the organisation. Responsibilities Qualifications A professional accountancy qualification (CCAB professional accountancy body or CIMA) is required for this post.
