We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Orthoptist to work in Herefordshire and beyond. We provide Orthoptic services in Herefordshire, Gwent, Powys and Shropshire.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain a high quality Orthoptic service in line with recognised professional standards, care pathways and best practice to deliver business objectives in line with trust policies and protocols.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including technicians, nurses, HCAs and Ophthalmologists.
* Provide a comprehensive and high quality Orthoptic service for patients referred to the Ophthalmology department.
* Practice independently to ensure each patient is seen professionally, efficiently and with a high standard of care.
* Assess patients, inpatients or outpatients, from other specialisms, using advanced clinical reasoning to administer suitable tests and form diagnoses.
* Make judgements involving complex facts to create evidence-based treatment plans and gain informed consent.
* Assess patients pre-operatively and provide measurements on which surgery for ocular motility problems may be based.
* Instil dilating and cycloplegic drops for ophthalmic investigation in accordance with medical exemptions and/or patient group directions in line with Trust drug policy.
* Explain, demonstrate and teach Orthoptic principles and procedures to junior medical staff, medical students, optometrists, health visitors, student nurses and health care professionals.
* Undertake biometry and keratometry for pre-operative cataract patients.
* Contribute to departmental clinical audit and participate in mentorship, reflective practice and annual appraisal.
* Contribute to the general running of the Orthoptic department.
Qualifications
* Degree/diploma in Orthoptics and current registration with the HCPC.
* Newly qualified Orthoptists are welcome and will be supported by the WVT trust-led AHP preceptorship program alongside the Orthoptic preceptorship program.
