Job Description:
Our client, a small commercial bank, is seeking to hire a first line Risk & Control Officer to ensure the bank manages its risks and controls effectively. Currently, risk is managed by the second line Risk Manager; however, the bank recognizes the need to develop its Risk & Control framework further for better insight into risks, Important Business Services, and control quality.
The Risk & Control Officer will work with first line teams to embed the risk management framework, understand each team's purpose, and identify key risks and controls. You will support teams in mitigating control weaknesses to foster a strong risk culture.
Responsibilities include:
* Developing operating effectiveness control testing to understand the control landscape and address weaknesses.
* Supporting teams in developing controls and processes to minimize exposure to risks by identifying failed processes and emerging risks.
* Understanding risk exposure, control environment, deficiencies, and gaps by building positive stakeholder relationships.
* Reporting risk and control deficiencies and managing mitigation actions.
* Maintaining Operational Resilience monitoring and assessment to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Creating management information for operational risk reporting, audits, and compliance requests.
* Providing cover for 2nd line risk during holidays or absences.
Candidate requirements:
* Experience in financial services or regulated environments with knowledge of risk, controls, or compliance.
* Experience in risk management, incident analysis, reporting, and control testing.
* Understanding of industry risk standards and practices, with a desire to learn more.
* Curious, collaborative, and able to ask incisive questions and act quickly.
* Excellent facilitation and influencing skills.
* Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work in evolving environments.
* Resilient, hands-on, and autonomous with good prioritization skills.
The bank operates on a hybrid basis, with two days in the office and three days remote.
