M&E Quantity Surveyor

Main Purpose of the Role
Responsible for the commercial management of projects, ensuring accurate, timely, and clear financial reporting. The role involves managing supply chain partners and subcontractors, while working collaboratively with the main contractor and/or client-side Quantity Surveyor to deliver commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Measurement and valuation of contract works and variations, including identification, valuation, agreement, and incorporation into the contract sum
* Liaise with the Main Contractor’s or Client’s Quantity Surveyor on all financial matters, including the agreement of variations and preparation, submission, and agreement of interim and final accounts
* Provide regular internal commercial reporting to senior management, including monthly cost reports and contract reviews highlighting financial movements and risks
* Ensure all commercial and contractual records are maintained in line with contract requirements
* Maintain accurate records of applications, payments received, certifications, and retentions across projects
* Monitor and control all commercial aspects of the project, including preliminaries, labour, plant, materials, and cost forecasting
* Prepare monthly valuations of work in progress and forecast final project costs
* Negotiate commercial matters with clients, consultants, or their representatives as required
* Support cost-to-completion forecasts, cash flow projections, and overall financial planning
* Ensure subcontract and key supply orders are issued, agreed, and in place prior to commencement on site
* Assess and value subcontractor applications and variations, issuing payment and/or pay-less notices in accordance with contractual requirements
* Manage the release of retentions and performance bonds at Practical Completion and Final Account stage
* Attend commercial, site progress, and client meetings as required
* Provide contractual and commercial advice to Project Managers and site teams when needed
* Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role
Qualifications
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
* Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body is desirable
Experience & Skills
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role managing the commercial delivery of M&E projects, typically valued between £2.5m and £10m
* Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract
* Competent user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage a varied workload
* Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK as required
