The role: Northwood College for Girls is seeking a talented, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Head of Economics and Business to lead a thriving and expanding department with energy, drive and ambition. The successful candidate will teach across the full age range, including Year 9 Finance, GCSE Business, and both A Level Business and Economics. They will be an engaging and impactful teacher who inspires students through their passion for the subject and motivates colleagues through their example. A strong commitment to wider school life is essential, as is the ability to build high-quality relationships with students and create an encouraging, aspirational learning environment. We are looking for a strategic thinker who is committed to developing an engaging and rigorous curriculum. The postholder will be a passionate subject advocate, eager to communicate their enthusiasm for Economics, Business and Finance, and they will be both an inspiring leader and flexible team player, committed to getting the best out of their departmental colleagues. At Northwood College for Girls, we are keen to empower students as independent learners, embedding metacognitive practice through thoughtful scaffolding. The Head of Economics and Business will provide dynamic lessons across all age groups, inspiring a lifelong love of entrepreneurship. They will be both an inspiring leader and a flexible team player, committed to developing colleagues and fostering a collaborative departmental culture. The successful candidate will be able to lead and grow the department, taking ownership for adapting and responding to the ever-changing curricula of Economics, Business and Finance. The Department: The Economics & Business Department at Northwood College has expanded significantly in recent years. From September 2025, we introduced GCSE Business, which has proven very popular, with over half the year group choosing the subject. Students will sit their first exams in Summer 2027. The Department also teaches financial literacy through PSHE and supports Junior School students in developing their understanding of money within maths lessons. As part of the Sixth Form Extend programme, we offer courses on topics such as Famous Economists, the rise of China in the EV market and debates on re-nationalising utilities. Courses are flexible, evolving each year to suit student interests and teachers' expertise. Additionally, we run the GDST Lead programme in Year 12, in partnership with the LSE and 22 sister schools, helping students develop an enterprising mindset and employability skills by bringing a social-impact business idea to market.
