Assistant Shipping Manager – Location: Wirral
Salary: £37,000 + benefits
Hours: Mon-Thurs 8:30am-5:00pm, Fri 8:30am-3:00pm (flexibility for occasional overtime required)
CAST UK are looking for a proactive Assistant Shipping Manager to support logistics operations, ensuring seamless international shipping, compliance, and team coordination. Responsibilities
* Shipment Coordination - Manage end-to-end freight logistics (air, sea, road), liaising with carriers to ensure on-time, cost-effective deliveries.
* Team Leadership - Supervise and train a packing team, optimising workflows and maintaining quality standards.
* Compliance & Documentation - Prepare shipping documentation (invoices, packing lists, customs forms) and ensure adherence to international trade regulations.
* Stakeholder Communication - Work closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, and internal teams to resolve issues and provide shipping updates.
* Process Improvement - Identify cost-saving opportunities and streamline logistics operations.
* Systems & Reporting - Use WMS/ERP systems (Microsoft Navision preferred) to track shipments and generate performance reports.
What We're Looking For
* Experience: 5+ years in shipping/logistics, including at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
* Freight Expertise: Knowledge of FTL, groupage, and parcel freight methods.
* Leadership: Ability to motivate and lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Problem-Solving: Strong attention to detail with the ability to resolve delays and ensure order accuracy.
* Tech-Savvy: Experience with WMS/ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV is advantageous).
* Customs Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Incoterms 2000, Customs Declarations, Brexit customs procedures, and UK HMRC rules.
* Preferred Qualifications: Supply chain certifications such as CILT, IATA, and ISO9001.
