Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools Practitioner

The team are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative individual to work in a specialist public health role within Cwm Taf Morgannwg Public Health Team.

The role contributes to the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of national and local strategy, policy and priorities including the Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools Scheme and the Whole School Approach to Emotional and Mental Wellbeing Statutory Framework across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

The role requires experience of working in or with school communities in addition to experience of working with a range of partner organisations relevant to health improvement.


Suitable candidates will require:

* Research methods including data collection and analysis
* Training and facilitation skills

This post is fixed term/secondment until 31 March 2027 due to funding. If you are interested in applying for it as a secondment, please obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.


Main duties of the job

Support the Health and Wellbeing Promoting Educational Settings Co‑ordinator in the overall planning, development, implementation, audit and evaluation of public health programmes including the Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools Scheme.

Support school communities to identify their health and wellbeing needs through self‑evaluation processes, formulate plans to address their needs and take action to evaluate their impact.

Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of local and national campaigns to meet local needs.

Identify, develop and maintain health related partnerships with members of school communities and organisations to promote health and well‑being.

Deliver training to health and education professionals on a range of health topics.

Develop evidence‑based guidance and resources for schools.

Contribute to the planning, development, implementation, validation, assessment and accreditation of evidence based public health interventions in conjunction with partners, including the delivery of local and national frameworks.

Prepare reports, reviews and presentations on the achievements/outcomes of health promoting schools projects and public health.

Scrutinise local and national data.

Support systems in place for monitoring and audit.

Undertake relevant research activities, working with academic centres and others on collaborative projects.

Job responsibilities

This is a specialist public health role within Cwm Taf Morgannwg Public Health Team.

The role contributes to the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of national and local strategy, policy and priorities including the Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools Scheme and the Whole School Approach to Emotional and Mental Wellbeing Statutory Framework across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

The post holder will plan, support, implement and deliver public health programmes within school communities across the counties of Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil. They will provide specialised advice and guidance to a cohort of school settings to enable them to identify and implement a range of actions to promote health and well‑being in their community.

The role is varied, involves working with schools, and to develop a holistic approach to improving health and well‑being through leadership and management, curriculum, ethos, environment, policy and practice.

The post holder will develop effective working relationships with in‑school co‑ordinators, Senior Management Teams/Committees, Pupil Voice Groups and Governing Bodies/Boards, as well as a variety of groups and partner organisations at both a local and national level.

Responsibilities are at a Cwm Taf Morgannwg Public Health Team level, and the post holder is expected to work under the direction and guidance of Health and Wellbeing Promoting Educational Settings Co‑ordinator and Principal Public Health Practitioner, who will agree specific work objectives on an annual basis according to local and national needs and priorities.


Welsh Skills Desirable

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesnt means essential; whilst the candidate doesnt need to have skills in Welsh, we’ll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isnt fluency, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
* Knowledge of public health policy and strategy
* Relevant training or postgraduate qualification in health or education
* Basic knowledge of the health policy context for NHS, education and local partners
* Knowledge and understanding of health determinants and inequalities in health
* Knowledge of one or more health promotion programme areas
* Evidence of CPD
* Knowledge of public health models and approaches


Experience

* Experience of working in or with school communities
* Experience of working with a range of partner organisations relevant to health improvement
* Experience in establishing new initiatives
* Experience in health promotion/public health initiatives in educational settings


Aptitude, Abilities and skills

* Ability to guide and advise a diverse range of individuals and partner organisations
* Ability to reflect and plan
* Research methods including data collection and analysis
* Training and facilitation skills
* Welsh Language Speaking/Listening Skills at Level 3 or above
