Main duties of the job
What We're Looking For:
* A passion for public health, with the ability to adopt a 'think family' approach and a genuine desire to improve outcomes for children and young people.
* Current NMC registration, or eligibility to register as a newly qualified nurse or midwife before the course start date. You must also meet the academic entry requirements for Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).
* Commitment to a 52 week full time programme, including timetabled annual leave, delivered by Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).
* The course includes a 50/50 split between academic study and supervised practice within our Healthy Child Programme teams.
* A desire to build a long term career within the Healthy Child Programme Services.

Job Purpose:
To Undertake the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse training (SCPHN school nursing) to develop the knowledge and skills required to function safely and effectively as a (SCPHN School Nurse) and lead practice within the public health agenda through support, education and guidance of the Higher Education Institute and Practice Supervisor, Practice Assessor and Practice Lead.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To attend all educational sessions as directed by the University, submitting assignments promptly as required, to achieve all objectives to the standard required. To develop new skills and knowledge showing integration of theory and practice.
2. To maintain a close liaison with the Practice Assessor throughout the course and to agree a clinical learning programme which will facilitate and support theoretical learning and reflect the value of practice centred education. Personal responsibility to identify and highlight any areas of concerns regarding progress and development (clinically, academically, and personally) before these become problematic.
3. To increasingly understand the wider determinants of health and seek to address health inequalities across diverse communities and populations.
4. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual/family focused programs of care (universal, targeted and specialist pathways), under the direction of the practice supervisor and assessor and work in partnership with other agencies e.g. support services for families, social care, early years provision/schools etc. Maintain professional record keeping standards ensuring records are accurate and contemporaneous in line with Trust policy and NMC standards.
5. To develop an awareness and involvement in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme with support and guidance from the Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor whilst utilising the skills and knowledge of the wider skill mix team. Developing into an autonomous practitioner throughout the course, taking responsibility for the care given to children / young people / families within own limits of competency and confidence.
6. To be aware of and demonstrate increasing skills and knowledge in assessment and decision making in relation to safeguarding concerns associated to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) Ensure concerns are responded to appropriately in line with local safeguarding policy and interagency safeguarding procedures and access appropriate training and supervision
Communication
7. Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with families and other professionals in a multi-agency and integrated working environment.
8. Report absence and sickness appropriately and promptly to the University and following your local service processes.
9. Arrange and attend regular clinical supervision with Practice Assessor and Practice Lead.
People Management
Maintaining own professional development and engage in all academic and practice-based assessments. Adhere to the NMC Code, standards of proficiency, and Trust values.
Clinical and Practice Governance
10. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
11. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed, or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
12. The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
13. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
14. It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with the NMC, and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.
15. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust or Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust.
16. Participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required.
17. Participate in the supervision on a regular basis with the Practice Assessor.
18. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.

Qualifications & Training
* Registered Nurse Current NMC registration on part 1 or 2 of the register
* Practice Assessor qualification, or equivalent

* Ability to work effectively with Children & Young People and their families delivering holistic, evidence based care that supports health, wellbeing, and development.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and in partnership with other agencies.
* Awareness of current legislation, national guidance, and local policies relevant to the Healthy Child Programme, and an understanding of how these influence practice and service provision.
* Ability to work independently
Knowledge & Skills
* Good communication skills - including effective verbal, written, and IT abilities to support clear, professional, and accurate information sharing.
* Understanding of health and safety guidelines and risk assessment and safe working practices.
* Can demonstrate how they have promoted 'best practice'
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload, balancing both clinical responsibilities and academic commitments effectively.
Safeguarding
* Awareness of the importance to safeguard & promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and demonstrates understanding of safeguarding issues.
* Is aware of legislation and current events and has an understanding of how these inform practice within health and community settings.
