Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Highly Specialist Healthcare Science Practitioner / Clinical Scientist/Echocardiographer to join a diagnostic Cardiology and Respiratory service at County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The post supports both in-patients and out-patients across multiple sites, with the hospital base at Darlington Memorial Hospital. The Cardiology & Respiratory Investigations Units comprise a team of approximately 40 staff delivering a broad range of invasive and non-invasive procedures including echocardiography, stress echocardiography, trans-oesophageal echocardiography, diagnostic angiography, pacing implant / follow-up, complex device follow up, tilt testing and nerve conduction studies. Main duties of the job:
* Work as part of the busy Cardio-Respiratory department team.
* Specialise in echocardiography and ensure delivery of high-quality echocardiography services within the team.
* Collaborate to ensure protocols and procedures meet local and national standards for good practice and service delivery.
* Perform a range of cardiac and other physiological investigations and produce evidence-based clinical reports.
* Provide training to other healthcare professionals and students; supervise junior staff and deputise for more senior staff as required.

Qualifications and experience
Essential qualifications and experience:
* Significant experience in echocardiography at specialist level (Band 6 or equivalent).
* Experience in a Cardiac Investigations department and a broad range of diagnostic cardiology procedures.
* Registered with AHCS or HCPC (or on AHCS Specialist Echocardiography Register).
* British Society of Echocardiography Adult Accreditation or equivalent.
* Immediate Life Support certificate (or willingness to undertake within 6 months).
Desirable qualifications and experience:
* Teaching/mentoring qualifications; experience supervising staff teams.
* Experience in stress echocardiography / trans-oesophageal echocardiography; service development and change management; involvement in audits and research.
* Budget management and leadership capabilities; ability to work across diverse clinical environments.
Special skills and knowledge
* Specialist echocardiography expertise with ability to provide clinical advice to a range of healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
* Operational leadership for echocardiography; strong organisational and IT skills.
* Able to audit and supervise others; prioritise workload; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; and interpret complex data to generate accurate reports.
* Ability to train staff at all levels and liaise with Primary and Secondary care as needed.
* Able to manage resources within budgetary limits and service requirements; presentation skills and commitment to evidence-based practice.

Statutory registration: Must be registered with AHCS or HCPC (or on AHCS Specialist Echocardiography Register).
Disclosure: This post requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and related regulations. Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
