This role sits at the heart of the finance function, with significant responsibility for technical accounting, financial controls, balance sheet substantiation, and statutory reporting within a complex treasury and markets environment. The Opportunity Role: Assistant Financial Controller Location: London Working model: Hybrid - 3 days per week in the office About the Organisation Our client is a well-established international banking group with a strong presence in London and operations across multiple global financial centres. Key Responsibilities Technical Accounting & IFRS Application Lead the application of IFRS standards across complex financial instruments, including derivative and hedge accounting under IFRS 9. Provide technical accounting guidance across lease, tax, and financial instrument accounting. Liaise with external auditors to evidence compliance with accounting standards. Balance Sheet Control & Substantiation Own monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet reconciliations. Investigate and resolve discrepancies, ensuring full substantiation with supporting evidence. Maintain accurate records across a range of treasury and markets products. Statutory Reporting & Compliance Prepare statutory financial statements in line with local regulatory requirements. Support audit processes and ensure timely, accurate reporting. Contribute to evolving reporting requirements, including sustainability and disclosure standards. Financial Controls & Process Improvement Develop, implement, and enhance financial controls across the function. Review processes to identify risk areas and improve efficiency and governance. Support system and process improvement initiatives where required. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Work closely with front office, risk, and senior management teams. Provide guidance and support to junior members of the finance team. Represent Financial Control in cross-departmental initiatives and working groups. Your Profile Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA). Strong Financial Control experience within a banking environment. Excellent technical accounting knowledge, particularly IFRS 9 and financial instruments. Experience with derivative products such as FX, swaps, repos, and fixed income instruments. Strong Excel and systems capability; exposure to treasury or core banking systems advantageous. Highly analytical with excellent attention to detail. Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with traders and senior stakeholders. What's on Offer Salary: £95,000 per annum. Hybrid working: 3 days per week in the London office.
