The Organisation


A UK-based multi-site business operating within the travel and tourism sector is looking for a dedicated Finance Assistant to join its finance team. The organisation has a flexible hybrid working model, a strong reputation, and is planning significant growth over the next few years. You will be part of a collaborative team, contributing to smooth financial operations and process automation projects.


• Supports a finance team of around 7, including finance managers and assistants.

• Underpins the organisation’s drive to automate and enhance transactional processes.

• Reports into the Head of Finance, working closely with internal teams and external suppliers.

• Operates within a fast-paced environment, with seasonal peaks and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Provides vital assistance to both finance operations and business growth plans.


The Role


As our Finance Assistant (Payroll & AP), you’ll ensure efficient processing of payroll and supplier invoices, support automation efforts, and help maintain strong controls and compliance. You will be instrumental in managing day-to-day transactions and supporting future financial reporting and process enhancements.

• Process end-to-end payroll for approximately 250 employees, including hourly and salaried staff, handling deductions, contractual changes, and payroll schemes.

• Maintain payroll accuracy through regular reconciliation and compliance checks.

• Address payroll queries, escalating complex issues, and supporting HMRC submissions and audits.

• Reconcile and process supplier invoices, matching with purchase orders, coding, and payments.

• Reconcile supplier statements and monitor credit card transactions, including operating the company’s credit card system.

• Assist with month-end supplier account reconciliation and payments.

• Support finance team administration and ongoing process improvements.


The Ideal Candidate


You will be a proactive, detail-oriented finance professional with solid payroll and accounts payable experience, eager to bring process efficiencies and automation to a growing business.

Mandatory

• At least 2 years of payroll processing experience (hourly and salaried staff).

• Sound knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory requirements.

• Proven experience in Accounts Payable or a broader finance role.

• Strong Excel skills and familiarity with finance systems.

• Excellent attention to detail and numeracy skills.

• Good communication skills and stakeholder management.

Preferred

• Experience with Purchase Order Systems.

• Familiarity with Iplicit finance system and Sage 50 payroll system.

• Exposure to process automation and efficiency initiatives.

• Knowledge of UK GAAP/FRS 102 accounting standards.


On Offer


This role provides a competitive salary of circa £35,000 depending on experience. You will benefit from flexible hybrid working (3-4 days in the office), 30 days holiday including public holidays, and access to salary sacrifice pension schemes.
