Health and Safety Manager

We are delighted to be partnering exclusively with an industry-leading technology manufacturer to recruit a skilled and proactive Health and Safety Manager for their cutting-edge facility in Plymouth. This organisation operates at the forefront of advanced manufacturing and innovation, offering a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping and safeguarding a complex production environment.
The Role
This is a critical leadership position responsible for managing all aspects of health and safety across a high-tech, cleanroom-based manufacturing site. You will drive continuous improvement, ensure legal compliance, and foster a culture where safety is embedded in every process. This role is ideally suited to a health and safety professional with experience in environments involving hazardous substances or high-tech manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the site’s health and safety management systems.
Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation, particularly around COSHH and the safe handling of hazardous chemicals and gases.
Design and deliver engaging health and safety training across all levels of the organisation.
Coordinate emergency response planning, including simulations and liaison with external emergency services.
Maintain up-to-date documentation and prepare reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
Collaborate with engineering, operations and facilities teams to embed safe practices in all areas of site activity.
Candidate Profile
NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
IOSH membership at Tech IOSH level or higher.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role within manufacturing or a similar high-technology environment.
Strong working knowledge of UK safety legislation and best practices, with specific experience in hazardous materials management.
Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Confident working independently and influencing safety culture at all levels of the organisation.
