This role is based at our 64-acre site, situated in the heart of Sheffield, and will be working as part of our Engineering & Technology department. The department supports all manufacturing areas within the company, from steelmaking through to finish machining. Drawing technical and manufacturing experience from all areas of the business, the Engineering & Technology team develops new processes and utilises technology to deliver solutions, improvements and innovations. As a Development Engineer, you will identify and implement new technologies to improve manufacturing processes, enhance operational efficiencies and support our net zero objectives.
This is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday. We offer flexibility in our start and finish times between 06:15‑09:30 and 14:30‑18:00.
What you’ll be doing
* Identify and assess new manufacturing technologies.
* Define equipment requirements and support procurement.
* Plan and run trials to support technology development and implementation.
* Support technology reviews and gateway assessments.
* Lead industrialisation activities to achieve process stability.
* Produce technical documentation and reports.
* Support technology transfer to operations.
* Develop concepts using CAD and simulation tools.
* Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders.
Qualifications
* BEng / MEng qualification or equivalent in Engineering or Science.
* Broad knowledge and understanding of engineering principles.
* Knowledge of automation, robotic processes and technologies.
* Knowledge of metrology principles, practices and equipment.
* Experience using computer simulations.
* Ability to design and carry out industrial and laboratory trials.
* Understanding of Lean principles and problem‑solving tools and techniques.
* Experience of report writing and presentations.
* Ability to read technical drawings.
