We are working with a National Top Tier Contractor who are adding to their growing London business and have an opportunity for a Design Manager to join them. They have a strong and secure pipeline of work across London includingmercial/Mixed Use refurbishment, Cut & Carve and Healthcare / Hospital schemes; £50m–£100m, offering exposure to technically challenging projects.This is a key role within the project team, where you will play a pivotal part in ensuring design excellence, programme certainty, and successful project delivery.As Design Manager, you will take ownership of the design process from pre-construction through topletion, ensuring that design information is coordinated,pliant, and aligned with programme andmercial objectives.You will act as the central point of coordination between internal teams, consultants, subcontractors and the client, driving design quality and mitigating risk.You will:
1. Manage the design process with full awareness ofmercial, contractual and programme constraints
2. Support tenders/bids, including input into value engineering exercises
3. Lead and coordinate external consultants and subcontractor design teams
4. Prepare and manage: Design Information Release SchedulesDesign ProgrammesDesign Responsibility Matrices
5. Ensure all designsply with current legislation, standards, codes of practice and Employer’s Requirements
6. Develop and manage drawing/document control systems and protocols
7. Collaborate with the Project Manager and Planner to align design and construction programmes
8. Support themercial Team in procurement planning and scheduling
9. Chair design team meetings and coordination workshops
10. Review design outputs for: Quality andpletenessHealth & Safety / CDMplianceBuildability and technical accuracy
11. Manage the RFI process and maintain registers
12. Support change control, including assessment of variations
13. Liaise with clients, stakeholders, statutory authorities and delivery teams
14. Manage client expectations and maintain strong working relationships
15. Ensure design information is delivered on time and to the required quality
16. Identify and reduce design and construction risks (technical, H&S and financial)
17. Support SHEQ plans, QA processes, and preparation of ITPs and quality documentation
18. Contribute to BIM implementation andpany standards where required
19. Undertake quality inspections and report on site issues
You will have/be:
20. Relevant qualification in construction, architecture or design management with a main contractor
21. Experience delivering new build and refurb projects circa £50m+
22. Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive design programmes
23. IT literate (MS Office essential)
24. Knowledge of BIM processes, tools and implementation (desirable)
